Well, it just so happens that the best free VPN for Android can do just that. I’m going to review my top 3 free providers in a moment, but first, there’s something I have to clarify.

This is not just a free Android VPN, but it was also designed for Android and iOS from the start, so it has quite a comfortable and effective user interface. Security-wise, Atlas VPN can definitely update Android security of your phone. It uses the latest encryption algorithm, has a Kill Switch to prevent IP leaks on network breaks, and has a reliable no-logs policy.

My only concern is that Atlas VPN operates under the US jurisdiction. This country is part of a 5-eyes intelligence alliance, and let’s be real, the laws are not privacy-friendly enough around here. That said, a no-logs policy removes a lot of my worries connected to the jurisdiction.

Despite being a free VPN, Atlas VPN uses an advanced WireGuard tunneling protocol for faster performance, so it provides a very reliable connection. The downside is that the connection is limited to three locations: one in the Netherlands and two in the US. There’s also a 5GB monthly data cap, which admittedly is not much.

🔥Proton VPN - a reliable free VPN for Android

This is one of the rare free VPNs with unlimited bandwidth. No data caps, and no speed limits, and since it uses the WireGuard protocol, that speed is pretty solid too. Proton VPN also has servers in 3 countries: the US, the Netherlands, and Japan. This looks like a perfect combo for streaming or torrenting, so it’s a real disappointment that Proton VPN free doesn’t allow either.

On the other hand, Proton VPN is very reliable security-wise. It uses the latest encryption method, offers a Kill Switch, and has an audited no-logs policy. Furthermore, Proton VPN operates under the jurisdiction of Switzerland, a country with privacy-friendly laws. This is a decent level of security, but if you’d like more security features, specifically ones dealing with ads, Android tracking, malware, and such, and also use Proton on more than one device, you will have to get a premium version.

🧨Windscribe - a free VPN with the best country access!
------------------------------------------------

So far you might have noticed that most free VPN in Android options have only a few countries to choose from. Worry not, Windscribe is here to change it. In my experience, it’s the only VPN with 11 countries to choose from for free! Moreover, Windscribe uses a WireGuard protocol, so the speed across most of these locations is quite decent. What I like about Windscribe is that it has a built-in adblocker and the Split Tunneling feature. It’s not often I see those on Android, and especially on a free VPN provider!

On the other hand, it’s sad that with so many available locations and decent speed, Windscribe doesn’t allow streaming with the free version, and torrenting is too slow to use reliably. The maximum 10 GB monthly data cap might be bigger than Atlas VPN’s, but I don’t think it’s enough these days.
